After 4 months of twittering, time has come for me to post a quick thought about twitter.com. Of course, like in everything else around this world, there are positive and negative aspects. Let’s start with the positive aspects:
- Useful waste of time
- You can easily make many virtual friends and meet new people (should have in mind that virtual friends are different than the real ones)
- Easy access to people that have something important to say (e.g. you can start following your role model, persons you look up on, or just some persons you can learn something from)
- Maybe the fastest way to communicate online (excluding IM where you are limited to your contacts)
- Extremely fast reaction to your 140 character post
Negative aspects:
- The higher the number of people you follow, the lower the quality content
- Some people confuse twitter with an IM system or a dating platform
- Some users share way too much information about them (e.g. I just took a leak, time to pee, etc.) – it’s good to share personal suff but maybe not that personal…
- Difficulties in creating separate channels/filter the information
So, is your life fabulous in Twitterville?
If you have never heard of twitter before, then you can take a good luck at the following funny video. It portraits a clear picture of the addiction that twitter creates.
Thanks Besim and Marto for your input.
